Frequently Asked Questions...
Wich Kitchenaid Mixer is better Classic 4.5 qt or the Artisan?
This is my first time that I'll buy a Kitchen Aid Mixer, somebody know wich one is better the Artisan 5qt and classic 4.5 qt? what's the difference?
I know that the classic is cheaper, but I want to buy something that really worth, so I need to know why is the Artisan more expensive? what's the difference ?
Thank you!! =)
Answer:
I have owned both of those - and they have their place. Owned all of the attachments too. I loved my full-sized KA for kneading a small amount of bread dough. And the grating attachment is a marvel. Didn't do such a hot job on whipped cream though - the bottom of the cream never whipped adequately no matter how much or how I adjusted the beater. Same with egg whites. You have to turn off the machine entirely, and then disengage and raise the head in order to add most things to the bowl. (The "pour shield" - assuming you got one - does not work all that well.) And the machine is almost too heavy to lift. Not a bad thing if you have an island it can live on, not convenient at all if your KA must live on a counter and be pulled out or moved for use.
These days I have neither. What I do have is a three-speed Kitchen Aid hand mixer that has lived in the kitchen for some 7 years now. It does not knead bread, but it does a bang up job of everything else, without any futzing with the beaters and it gets a daily workout. There was a time that I burned up a hand mixer every single Christmas baking season. Not my little Kitchen Aid. I wouldn't trade the thing for any of the big-bowl KA versions.
